Happy Friday and welcome to another edition of Focus Cambodia’s weekly round up.
First off, we want to thank all of our new subscribers. This newsletter is where you’ll find all of our articles published throughout the week and occasional commentary on current happenings and newsworthy events.
We’d also like to remind you that Focus Cambodia is a part of Globe Media Asia and while we love reporting and sharing stories from around the Kingdom of Wonder, it’s the work we do as an agency that allows us to continue this important pursuit. From video production and design to strategic consulting and behaviour change campaigns, our team can help. Take a look at a selection of our recent projects here and remember, you can always get in touch to learn more by replying to this email.
Now for this week’s stories.
Last week we covered Cambodia’s developing agro-processing industry and how the creation of the Cambodia Quality Seal (CQS) could help local goods reach international markets. At week’s end there was exciting news as Siem Reap’s own Home Taste Food successfully delivered 4.7 tonnes of dried fish to Australia, thanks in part to the company’s success in receiving the CQS certification. Earlier this year, we spoke with company owner Sim Sreyroath for Focus Cambodia magazine where she shared the story of how the CQS helped transform her growing business.
Small businesses like Sreyroath’s are driving Cambodia’s economy and communities forward. Supporting SMEs and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit in the Kingdom is central to work at Khmer Enterprise (KE). We sat down with Dr Chhieng Vanmunin, CEO of KE, to learn more about the group’s role in the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and what he believes the future holds for Cambodian startups and small businesses.
With programmes and organisations like KE being established by the Royal Government of Cambodia, our team took a look at the newest faces leading the country. The 7th government in the post-conflict era was inaugurated in August of 2023 and represented a generational transition of government leadership. With 23 of 30 ministries changing hands, we compiled a guide to help you navigate who’s-who in the current administration.
Another generational change is taking place in the classrooms at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh. For our partner article this week, we spoke with Shrewsbury’s founding principal, Toby Waterson, where he explained what makes the institution unique to the market and exciting plans for a future campus opening later this year.
Finally, we send you off into the weekend with our recommendations for libations in Phnom Penh with our Drink Guide to the capital.
